Removing Decay & Relieving Pain

A root canal treatment is performed by our Halifax dentists to remove infected material and decay from deep within a tooth, helping to alleviate discomfort and restore good oral health.

It’s common to feel nervous about root canal treatment, but thanks to modern techniques and local dental anesthetic, most patients experience little to no discomfort during or after the procedure.

Patients are often relieved to find that the painful symptoms caused by the damaged tooth disappear immediately after the procedure.

By removing the decay and bacteria from the inner parts of the tooth and roots, your dentist can halt the spread of infection and allow for the restoration of the healthy portion of the tooth.

With proper care, most teeth treated with a root canal can last a lifetime.

The Root Canal Procedure

Your dentist will begin by numbing the area and making a small opening in the tooth. They will remove any infected tissue, clean and shape the inside of the tooth, and rinse it thoroughly.

Next, they will clean and disinfect the inner chamber and fill it with medicated material to help prevent infection.

After a few weeks of healing, your dentist will place a crown on the tooth to protect it and restore its strength.
